Everything Magical Must Come To An End

Thursday, Dec 29th: In the morning, Cassie and I went to two cast member stores. One of them sells a lot of Disney clothing and toys, in addition to cheap household things, likes computers, dishes, irons, and pinball machines. The other store sells damaged or otherwise unsellable Disney merchandise for 75% off. They're the best places to shop if you don't mind stuff that's a little chipped or imperfect. Later on, we went to the Polynesian Resort to confirm reservations for Spirit of Aloha, which is a fancy outdoor dinner and luau. I had organized these plans for a final dinner for the presenters, core team, and my roommates because we had a special 50% discount in January. 17 of us were going, so it was going to be a huge group. However, due to an uncommon cold front that hit Florida, it was cancelled a few days later. All that work for nothing! We were all pretty bummed, so we tried to find something else for us to do together instead.

On the drive to the Polynesian, my brakes started to fail. They were making kind of an "airy" sound and I had to press all the way down just to stop the car. Luckily, I was able to make it to a parking spot and check out the problem under the hood. Thank goodness Cassie was with me, or I don't know if I would have figured out what was wrong. It turns out there was a hole in a pipe, and the brake fluid was leaking. Awesome. Like I needed another car issue. So after we got our dinner ticket, I bought some brake fluid at Hess, dropped Cassie off at home, and took my little Nissan back to Riker's. Then Cassie picked me up again, and we went to Animal Kingdom for a while (which we intended on doing earlier, had it not been for my stupid car).

Friday, Dec 30th: The roomies, Hulbert, and I wanted to go to Magic Kingdom one last time, so we went there after work. Alyssa, Cassie, and I watched the first Wishes fireworks show, and then they headed home since they had to work early the next day. I found Hulbie and Sonia, and we rode the Peoplemover (the most exciting ride at MK...or not). Then we went to The Laugh Floor, which is a short comedy show with the characters from Monsters Inc. They choose random people from the crowd as volunteers, and then put them on the screen. I happened to be sitting next to one of them, so I leaned over and made a ridiculous face so I could be on the screen, too. WIN! Next, we went to the Tomorrowland Dance Party (which is as amazing as it sounds), shared a funnel cake, and watched more fireworks at 11:50! These were the New Years Eve fireworks (they were having them today and tomorrow), so they were bigger and better than ever. At midnight, everyone counted down and then there was a spectacular grand finale! To avoid the crowd, the three of us flew out of the park like we were being chased by a serial killer. We rode the monorail and tram, and drove home in record time...We were back by 12:35!! That's virtually impossible, especially on a night when the park was so insane!
 I'm definitely going to miss this view from Main Street and these fireworks.

Saturday, Dec 31st: Instead of making a poor life decision of going to one of the parks for the actual NYE fireworks, Sonia, Hulbie, and I stayed in and watched the ball drop on tv. That night, I discovered my new career goal: tattoo artist. I drew a honeybadger on Hulbie's shoulder, and it was EPIC. Ok, actually it was horrible, but it was purely for entertainment purposes. The reasoning for the tattoo is this video on Youtube. During the past few weeks (or months...), the presenters were getting a little burned out, so we were like honeybadgers because HONEYBADGERS DON'T CARE! Now it's a big joke with all of us, and we reference it whenever possible.

Sunday, January 1st: Today, we started one of our many new rotations at DAK. Next semester, instead of 20 presenters, there will be 27, and as a result, the schedules will change frequently. So Core Team is testing them out on us. Instead of being at KDC's or animal exhibits for an hour, sometimes we're there for two or two and a half hours, so it's veryyyyy different. It's just a little hard to get used to this after having the same schedule for 7 months.

When I was at the siamang exhibit, this super attractive Puerto Rican guy came up to me and asked if I could help him. His son had dropped his Pokeball in the water, so I called the keeper to come retrieve it. In the meantime, this guy kept telling me that all the cast members were so nice and helpful, and that he really loved Animal Kingdom. I've talked to so many rude guests that just want to get where they're going, and could care less about what they can learn from the presenters, so it's really refreshing when someone appreciates the work you do. He was really fascinated with what I had to say about the siamangs, and he thanked me and the keeper after his son's toy was removed from the water. It's those type of people that I'll miss talking to after this internship is over.

Tuesday, January 3rd: It was SO COLD today!! It was literally 48 degrees. I realize in Pennsylvania, that's nothing. But because I was wearing shorts just a few days ago, it sucks! We all were wearing our long-sleeved shirts, long pants, barn coats, hats, and gloves. Insanity!!

Instead of going to the siamangs exhibit in the morning, our Education Manager took Mike and I to a meeting room for our end-of-internship one-on-ones. I was just excited to be indoors during the frigid cold! During the meeting, we reflected on my time at Disney and discussed my performance. It went alright, we talked mostly about the positive things I've done for the company, and she gave me some advice for future job-searching.

Wednesday, January 4th: In the morning, we had a group feedback session with all of our managers, and I think they received all of our input pretty well, and that it will help make the presenters' experience even better next semester.

Because of the changed schedule, I had to talk to guests for an hour and a half at the main entrance (eww). So I grabbed a cast of a rhino horn and told people some facts about our rhinos and the differences between horns and antlers. The morning got a little better when I saw the attractive Puerto Rican dad from Sunday. He thanked me again for helping him out, and then I told his family about my prop and told them to have a great day.

That night, Sonia, Cassie, Alyssa, and I had our last dinner together at Boma, a fancy restaurant at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Most of the food there is African cuisine, or at least has a little African flare to it. It was all absolutely delicious, and the night was a fun last outing with my roomies that I've become such great friends with. I'm gonna miss them and their crazy antics SO much!!!

Thursday, January 5th: The time has come. Today was my last day as a Conservation Education Presenter at Disney's Animal Kingdom. The journey was over after almost seven months.

We had a lovely breakfast and party waiting for us when we arrived today. Core Team had put together a slideshow with pictures of us interacting with guests, and it had inspirational quotes and messages that made me tear up a little. We even had a graduation ceremony where we received a "yearbook", a group picture, a certificate, and our Mickey graduation ears, complete with tassel. Then we all signed each other's yearbooks and headed out for our final work day.

While I was at the main entrance, I swear I saw Dr. Powell, a geology professor at Juniata. He was too far away to go talk to him, though. I'm about 90% sure it was him. Anyway, later on when I was at the otter exhibit, I almost cried. I guess it hit me that my time at Disney was almost over and that I wouldn't get to talk about these animals anymore. To my delight, I was able to watch one more training session with them. Afterward, the two sibling otters chased each other and rolled around in the dirt. It was incredibly adorable.

When I was in Africa, a woman noticed my Juniata name tag, and asked, "Did you take any math classes at Juniata?" I said yes and wondered why she was asking. She then asked if I knew Kim Roth (I  knew of her, but I'd never met her), because they had gone to college together! Small world! Love those JC connections.

At 5:00, Katrina, Emily, and I closed the Asia KDC one last time and walked back to the CCC. Now it was time for goodbyes. We all exchanged hugs and final words with each other and with Core Team. I was crying the entire time we all walked to the parking lot. It was all surreal that the internship was over already. Absolutely crazy.
Our KDC sign in Africa, where you can track a rhino!

That night, Cassie, Sonia, Hulbie, Nicole, and I went to Dave and Buster's for some appetizers and fun games. Because Hulbie, Nicole, and Cassie chose to go home after that, I had to say goodbye to Hulbie and Nicole. That was difficult because we all became so close while we were here. Sonia and I then drove to the Ale House to get some dessert with most of the other presenters. When we left, it was goodbye for real.

Friday, January 6th: Since i had to run a ton of errands, I woke up super early. I went to the post office, Downtown Disney for some final shopping, and Epcot. There was almost no one in the park, so I was able to meet Mulan, Belle, Marie (from the Aristocats), Snow White, Alice, and Mary Poppins. In total, I have met 57 characters during my internship! EPIC.

I then went to DAK so I could take one last tour before I left. Mostly, I wanted to say goodbye to all of my favorite animals and take pictures so I could remember where I worked every day. When I was finished, I returned my Disney ID to the CCC, and then walked out of Animal Kingdom one last time. I had a wild time, thanks for the memories. Dig ya later! Also, here are some of the critters I talked about on a daily basis (plus a final shot of The Mouse and I)...
Reeve's Muntjac, Babirusa

Military Macaw, Giant Anteater

Cotton Top Tamarin, Asian Small-Clawed Otter

White-Cheeked Gibbons, Safari Mickey and I

Now I had the daunting task of packing my car and cleaning out the apartment! There was actually room to spare in my Nissan when I was done! However, I still had a lot of food left in the fridge and freezer, so I stuffed half of it in my mouth so it wouldn't all go to waste.

Saturday, January 7th: At promptly 10:15, our resident director came to check the apartment and kick us out. We weren't exactly finished cleaning, so we had to just grab everything and go. Sonia and I said goodbye, and then drove out of Cumberland. I MISS YOU, ROOMIE!! The funny thing was that our cars passed each other going down International Drive, but then I turned off and we went our separate ways.

I got to Sanford at the Auto Train station (a double decker train that you can take your car on!) around 11:30 to sign in and get my boarding pass. Because I was really early, I took the courtesy shuttle to downtown Sanford for a few hours. It's a cute little town; there are a bunch of little cafes and art galleries and whatnot. I roamed around the farmer's market, sipped on a pineapple-orange smoothie, and enjoyed the lovely sun and breeze that was passing through. At 2:00, the driver came back to get us, and took us back to the station. I boarded the train (I was on the top level!!), and we left around 3:00. The trip was about 17 hours, so after a nice dinner that was included, I watched a few episodes of Dexter and tried to get some sleep.

Sunday, January 8th: We arrived in Lorton, Virginia around 9:45, and my brother, sister-in-law, and my two nieces were waiting for me! It took quite a while for all of the cars to be unloaded, but when mine came out, we drove to Jonathan and Staci's house where I'd be staying overnight.
These are the trains that all the cars came out of. It was kind of cool to see them all drive out!

The Steelers vs. Broncos wild card game was tonight, and it was awful. Oh well, it was still a good season for the Stillers. The only thing that made the hurt go away was the SNL skit about Tebow. Freaking hi-larious! I hope you've seen it, because it's a gem, but it's been removed from Youtube.

Monday, January 9th: I got an early start today, and made it back to Pittsburgh before noon! Although I wasn't a fan of the cold weather, I was glad to finally be home!
~~~
So this is the end of my blog, and I hope y'all have enjoyed reading about my adventures as a Conservation Education Presenter at Animal Kingdom. It was such an unforgettable seven months. I worked with 19 fantastic people (and great managers, too), many of whom I'd consider to be really good friends. Even though we all went through our ups and downs, I feel really grateful to have had this opportunity. It's one I'll never forget. No, really, I never will. I see Disney commercials and references to my job every single day, and I miss it A LOT. So thanks to everyone who made this experience "magical".
To my fellow presenters, we touched the lives of over 1,070,435 guests during our journey. Even though we may not have given out a conservation message to everyone we saw, we made a huge impact on a lot of families, and on conservation. I'm proud of all of us, and I hope I'll get to see you guys again real soon!!
A Very Merry Christmas With Mickey
Thursday, Dec 15th: Our final seminar, which was about Veterinary Care, was today. However, first we had to take our presenter group picture in front of The Tree of Life. Then we listened to two speakers and got a tour of the vet hospital, which was pretty neat. Afterward, since it was technically my day off, I changed my clothes and headed to the refuge one final time. I took care of all the squirrels, taught David how to do the lemurs, and taught Annie how to do Spencer's cage. At the end of the day, Kelly offered to take photos of me with the lemurs and Spence. I said goodbye to everyone and headed home with tears in my eyes. I learned so much while I was there, and I'm going to miss everyone I worked with and all the animals I grew to love.
Also, BTN posted this video on their facebook page. Elvis gives you a tour of the refuge and all the cute animals I worked with. It's amazing. Check it out!!
Friday, Dec 16th:
 I decided to go to DAK today even though I had off. I wanted to take care of all the unfinished business I had as a guest. First, I met Flik, and then Russell and Dug from "Up!". I walked the Maharajah Jungle Trek, watched the Flights of Wonder bird show (YAY), rode Dinosaur, watching the Finding Nemo show (and fell asleep), saw the parade, and walked the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail. I did a bunch of Christmas shopping, and then headed to the entrance to wait for Sonia to get out of work. We then went to Epcot and met up with Hulbie. Because I had barely eaten all day, and I wasn't really feeling the Christmas spirit, I was in a crappy mood. As a result, the night wasn't as fun as we had planned.
Saturday, Dec 17th: Sonia and I had a roomie night, and went to the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater at Hollywood Studios for dinner. It took FOREVER just to get into the park because the holiday crowds were piling into Disney. When we got to the restaurant, we barely had to wait. The atmosphere was soo cool! We sat in a huge, dimly lit room that had stars twinkling and a big projector screen where they showed clips of old black and white movies. Our tables were even in convertibles! My turkey wrap and fries were delicious, and my souvenir cup with the light-up Buzz Lightyear toy were pretty sweet, too. We hung around the park for a little while to work on some more shopping, and then we went home after a fun night.
Monday, Dec 19th: During lunch, I listened to that fateful voice mail saying that I wasn't accepted to the keeper traineeship. Well, that was my last chance to continue working for Disney. I REALLY wanted that. It would've given me the opportunity to possible get a full-time job there, or at least pretty much solidify a keeper job somewhere else. Now it's back to square one. Oh well. I was really upset at the time, but this just means there's something better out there for me.
When I got home, I finished my Christmas cards. It took sooo long because, on each one, I drew my friend or family members favorite Disney character. I thought it would make them more personal, and I loved the way they turned out. After the Steeler game, which was delayed because of two power outages, I went to Wal-Mart to buy mailing supplies, even though it was midnight haha.
Tuesday, Dec 20th: Because of our different holiday work shifts, I didn't have to go in until 9:45. So beforehand, I drove to Wal-Mart (again) to get a smaller box for my family's presents. Then I put them all in the mail! Work was pretty uneventful, besides for the billions of guests nagging us with annoying questions. At the end of the day, I found out that there was an hourly keeper job with the TOL/Oasis team now available! I applied a few days later, but they never even emailed me back. Great. Thanks for the consideration.
Wednesday, Dec 21st: The gentle giant of country music, Trace Adkins, was the narrator at Candlelight Processional tonight!!! Sara and I went right after work, and although the line wasn't nearly as long as it was for NPH, we weren't sure that we'd get into the 6:45 show. Luckily, an usher said there were two seats behind a tree, and we gladly volunteered to take them! They weren't kidding, we were literally behind a tree. Fortunately, we were able to move over and see a little better. Trace did such a good job--his voice is so soothing and deep. I would love for him to sing me a lullaby every night so I can fall asleep!
Thursday, Dec 22nd: Since this was one of my last free days, I chose to spend it at Magic Kingdom. Because all the crazy guests were at other parks (they were probably planning on spending the weekend at MK), the lines for everything were really short. Well, expect for Rapunzel's line. I waited for an hour and a half to see her, but it was worth it. When I got to her little garden area, there was a table with coloring pages, and little kids were having fun while their parents waited in line. Even though I was probably the only one there without a child, it made me so happy to see all the families together. Later on, I went on a bunch of rides, and tried to meet as many characters as possible.
Friday, Dec 23rd: I had to work overtime instead of having the day off--gross! Afterward, I went to see Susan Lucchi at Candlelight. Yes, her hair really IS as big as it looks on tv. Since I still had yet to go on Mission: Space, I went on that afterward. Now I remember why I wasn't a fan of it--I think I left my stomach on the ride.
Saturday, Dec 24th: Work kind of sucked today because I was scheduled with the late shift from 9:45-7:15. Because Sonia worked the normal time, I had to wake up on my own. Unfortunately, I forgot to set my alarm, and I just barely made it to DAK on time. During our extended holiday hours, we keep 3 of the 6 KDC's open late so kids can get their stamps. That also means that we have to give them stamps for the stations that are closed and we end up doing 50 million pledges because of it. I closed the Dinoland KDC by myself, and during the first half hour, I had 79 people! It was insane! Luckily, it slowed down after that, but it was kind of lonely and dark.
Sunday, Dec 25th: Merry Christmas!!! It was sad to open my presents by myself that morning. My first Christmas away from family. At least being at work kind of kept my mind off of that. We even had a yummy potluck lunch to celebrate!
Nick and I closed CS, so we were done at 6:00. When we got back to the CCC (Conservation Command Center...it's where we have all our meetings), Nick, Kristin, and I ate all the leftover cookies and veggies while we commiserated about working on Christmas. I guess the day wasn't so bad though. At least families wished us happy holidays and were really nice.
Tuesday, Dec 27th: Today, I finally saw (sort of) a CELEBRITY! I swear, every other presenter has seen someone famous at Disney, but I had yet to do so. I've missed people like Stan Lee, James Cameron, Neil Patrick Harris, Joey Fatone, Boyz II Men, Buddy Valastro (Cake Boss), and Kobe Bryant. So when I was at the Asia KDC with Karen and Katrina, Katrina asked me if I watched Big Brother. I said yes, and then she tried to think of the names of two people that had been on the show. She described them to me, and we finally determined it was the infamous Brandon and Rachel. Then Katrina said that they had just walked by in their marriage Mickey ears!!! However, by that time, they were clear down the path. I'm pretty sure I squealed REALLY loudly, and then without saying anything, I bolted after them. I could see the bride and groom ears in the distance, but they were too far away. Damn! Oh well, at least I saw the backs of their heads.
Wednesday, Dec 28th: My lovely friend whom I've known since I was about 5, Hannah, was in Florida visiting her boyfriend's family, and she came to see me tonight!! We decided to meet up at Giordano's, an Italian restaurant. Because of bumper-to-bumper traffic, it took me a half an hour to drive three miles! One reason I won't miss Orlando. Anyway, Hannah, Lee, his sister, and I shared a Chicago-style pizza. It was the best pizza I have ever eaten in my life!! After a great dinner, we went to Downtown Disney to shop. I think I've been in The World of Disney so many times that I could tell you the location of any plush Simba toy, princess dress, or tacky ornament without thinking. As we were walking through the store, we stopped at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique (a salon where little girls can get princess makeovers). The woman working there said a little rhyme about making our wishes come true, and then sprinkled fairy dust on our heads. Who says I can't act like a little kid every once in a while? The only bad thing was that it took several days to wash the glitter out of my hair. Sadly, fairy dust isn't "Disney Look".
Alright, I have ONE more post to go! I'll be talking about New Years, my last few days of work, and my long trip home to Pittsburgh. In the meantime, here's a quote from one of my favorite Christmas movies, Elf!
"We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup."--Elf
Legen...wait for it...dary!!
Thursday, Dec 1st: At Back To Nature, I took care of the screech owls, squirrels, Spike, and the ring-tailed lemurs! This was the first time I've gotten to work with the lemurs all by myself, so I was super pumped. They're so fascinating to watch when they're climbing around their cage. We have three: Thumbelina, Honeybear, and Whimsa. I love preparing their diets because I can get creative with it. I give them a big plate with colorful fruits, veggies, greens, and "monkey biscuits". They absolutely love avocado and mini-bananas, especially.
After a great afternoon, the day went downhill. On my way home, I turned onto International Drive, literally a mile from home, and my gas pedal lost all of its tension. So instead of speeding up when I pressed the gas, I kept slowing down. I started to freak out, but luckily I was able to pull into a nearby parking lot and slide into a spot. I turned my car off and then on again, and when I tried to pull into the next spot, I barely could. The car literally could only go about 5 miles per hour. Not a good thing. I called AAA, and they said it would take about 90 minutes for them to get there, but it only ended up taking 15! Jose drove me to Riker's, which was pretty close to my apartment. I left my car there overnight, and Cassie picked me up (my favorite roommate haha).
Friday, Dec 2nd: Today was an awesome day with Hulbie--I finally got the chance to go to Universal Studios! It consists of two parks, and we decided to just go to Islands of Adventure. It includes Jurassic Park, Super Heroes, Suessland, Comic Strip land, and Harry Potter World. Right when we got there, we went to HP World!! YAY! The butterbeer was absolutely fantastic. I want the recipe for it! We went on a few rides and walked around the shops. It's pretty amazing how much it all really looked like Hogsmeade. It was like I was actually in the movies! Although Universal is completely different than Disney, it has its own charm. We got our pictures taken with soo many characters, and we rode some of the rides several times since the park was pretty much empty!
After a wonderful time with Hulbie, we went to Riker's to pick up my car. The GPS took us to a very sketchy area, and we were a little scared for our lives haha. Eventually, we found our way, but the place was closed by the time we got there. Luckily, Sonia was nice enough to wake up the next day and drop me off so I could finally get my car back!
Saturday, Dec 3rd: I heard a funny story from the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) guy that works next to the Asia Kids' Discovery Club. He said that one time when he was working at MK, a guest asked him, "Where is the dome that goes over all of Magic Kingdom?" REALLY?! Wow. That has to be one of the most ridiculous guest questions of all time.
That night, BTN was hosting "Christmas with the Critters", a fundraiser for the refuge. I took Cassie along and showed her all the animals I work with. They had a bake sale, auction, face painting, and Santa! Unfortunately, Mr. Clause had already left by the time we got there.
Sunday, Dec 4th: Awful day at work. I was at the Dinoland KDC, and some stupid middle or high school football players were across the path at the crocodile exhibit. One of them thought it was fake, so he started to climb over the fence. Before I could say anything, the adult with him told him to get down. Since I am not allowed to leave the KDC, I couldn't go over there. But when he did it again, I walked halfway over and yelled at him (oh and did I yell!). He tried to tell me that the "alligator" wasn't real so it was ok. He also told me to make it move. Then the idiot adult said, "He's not moving, he has cobwebs on his mouth. He isn't real." I tried to calmly tell these ignorant people that he sits still in his natural habitat and waits for his prey, but then they just asked if they could throw rocks at him. What the hell is wrong with you?? I argued with them for a good while, trying to convince them that Marley was real. Eventually, I just gave up because they were causing a scene. So then I just gave them the death glare until they left. Those were the most frustrating people I've ever talked to.
The day got better after that, because the roomies, Hulbert, and I went to DisneyQuest, which is a big place with arcade games and interactive activities. It's like a 10-year-old boy's dream! Also, it was one of my favorite parts of Disney when I was young. What can I say, I was a tomboy.
Monday, Dec 5th: Happy 110th birthday to Walt Disney! Thanks for having all those ambitious dreams so families could come together. Because of you, I have made so many friendships and memories that I'll cherish forever!
This evening was the College Program/Professional Intern formal dance at Coronado Springs Resort. It was so much fun! There was dancing, food, and obscure characters to meet. I met the three hyenas from Lion King, Baloo, Mowgli (who was an awkward adult trying to look like a kid...), safari Mickey and Minnie, and Tarzan and Jane. I was pretty much starstruck when I saw Tarzan...in just a loincloth. He said, "You can stand right here next to me!" Don't mind if I do! So apparently he's the only Tarzan at Disney. He was the same guy I barely missed trying to meet at Mickey's Not-So-Scary party in September. You have no idea how excited I was to get a second chance! Because we got a big group picture with him and Jane, Cassie and I went back later to get one with just him. We JUST made it before he was done for the night. Overall, it was a spectacular night with good music, friends, and smokin' hot Tarzan.
If only I would have thought to touch Tarzan's butt...
Tuesday, Dec 6th: I had my interview for the animal keeper trainee position during my lunch. I thought it went pretty well, but ultimately, they didn't choose me.
Tonight, Cassie and I went to our first Candlelight Processional. Here's what the event is: Every year around Christmas time, our cast choir (plus some high schools from around the country) perform concerts, three times a night. There is also a guest celebrity that narrates the story of Christmas in between each song. Tonight, it was Edward James Olmos. Award-winning actor from Miami Vice, Battlestar Galactica, and Stand and Deliver. Or, if you're a Dexter fanatic, he was frickin Professor Gellar!! And trust me, he was every bit as scary while he was reading about shepherds and inns as he was on Dexter. But he was so amazing, you can tell that he loves doing Candleight every year because he spoke with such passion and meaning. Love him.
Wednesday, Dec 7th: During our morning meeting, Sonia said to me, "I think I'm in the mood for ice cream." This was the best thing I'd ever heard. She isn't a big sweets eater, so I knew when that time came that her, Cassie, Alyssa, and I were about to face the biggest challenge of our lives. The Kitchen Sink. This is something that many people attempt, but few finish. It's an epic dessert served at Beaches and Cream, and you need at least 5ish people to eat. It's 8 scoops of ice cream (3 flavors of your choice), all the toppings in the house (angel food cake, brownies, hot fudge, bananas, marshmallow creme, various chocolate candies, almonds, sprinkles, cherries, and more), and a whole can of whipped cream. Here's the complete recipe!
So the whole thing is served in a bowl that looks like a sink, and when the waiters bring it out, the lights and sirens go off in the 50's-style ice cream parlor. Now some of y'all probably know how much I love ice cream. I eat a bowl every night...sometimes even two. So we thought it was gonna be an easy challenge, but we were so wrong. I don't think I've ever felt so sick in my life. But at the same time, it was EPIC.  Halfway through, Alyssa pulled out, so Sonia, Cassie, and I had to eat for her, too. It was kind of funny, because we saw families of 6 people, or groups with huge guys that finished it. But we just had 3.5 tiny girls, and we flat-out dominated. It took us 50 minutes to finish, but we did it. Afterward, we felt like we were all going to explode, and I said I'd never eat ice cream again...Needless to say, that only lasted one day.
Before...and after...
Thursday, Dec 8th: Somehow, David, Debbie, and I were the only ones at BTN today. Usually there are 5 or 6 of us, so we were super short-staffed. David isn't exactly the most motivated person around, so I had to, once again, do most of the work with the resident animals while Debbie took care of the babies and raccoons. At least I got to see all of my favorite animals!  Besides the birds, squirrels, and emu, I spent some quality time with the lemurs and Spencer the Arctic Fox. Spencer is so sweet, he's just like a little puppy. He even eats right out of my hand! Since he's an omnivore, his diet always has variety. Some fruits, veggies, dry dog food, a chicken, and some other kind of meat. Usually I hide the chicken in a bell pepper so he can find it, or I freeze it in ice so he can try to scrape it out. He's so precious and I love him.
Friday, Dec 9th: Since there had been a lot of drama going on lately, I really enjoyed whatever time I could just have by myself. So I had some fun "me time" at Hollywood Studios. I saw the Beauty and the Beast theatre show, went on Voyage of the Little Mermaid and Tower of Terror, and then headed to the Pixar area to meet Buzz and Woody! I was pretty much in love haha. On my way out, Buzz pointed to his cheek and asked me to give him a kiss. I bet YOU haven't kissed Buzz Lightyear before! All I know is that it was probably some creepy or old guy in the costume. I then went over to the Animation Building where I learned how to draw Sorcerer Mickey from a real animator, and I met Mr. and Mrs. Incredible and Sorcerer Mickey himself. The Pixar "Countdown to Fun" parade was at 3, and it was really cool. There were a lot of stars in it that you can't meet in the parks. Later on, I rode Star Tours (LOVE it), and met several other characters. Finally, my goal of doing just about everything at Studios was complete, and I went home feeling accomplished.
Saturday, Dec 10th: Tonight was legen...wait for it...dary! Karen, Lindsay, Emily, Erica, and I went to Epcot straight after work for Candlelight. NEIL PATRICK HARRIS was the guest narrator. Holy heart attack, Batman! We got there at 6:15, and the line was SO LONG. We knew we weren't getting into the 6:45 show, and we knew it wasn't even guaranteed we'd get into the 8:15 one. So we sat down and made friends with the couple behind us. Over the next two hours, we got to know them and had a good time playing cards. The whole theater seating pretty much got filled up, but they were trying to get in as many people as possible. When we got to the front, they asked how many were in our party. We didn't even think to include our new friends, and we unfortunately got separated. We felt awful because we weren't sure they were going to get in--but they eventually did! There literally was no room for anyone else by the time the show started. NPH was incredible, he made a few jokes about Disney in his opening speech. I love that man so much, and I wish I had tried out for the choir so I could have met him. Damn!
NEIL PATRICK HARRIS!!
Sunday, Dec 11th: NPH was at DAK as a guest today, and when Steph sent me a picture of him on the Pangani Trail, I'm pretty sure I squealed so loud that everyone in the cast cafeteria heard me. NBD.
Monday, Dec 12th: Today I met a new security guard named Russell, who was kind of awkward and strange. He showed me a scar on his arm, and told me it was from an alligator bite. Ummm, what?! I didn't believe him, but he showed me a video later on that proved he wasn't kidding. Him and his friends went fishing and they caught a small alligator, and they all thought they could hold his mouth open and stick their arm in. It didn't work out so well for Russell haha. Wow, he's not the sharpest crayon in the box. Pretty entertaining, though.
Wednesday, Dec 14th: The presenter Christmas party was tonight at a member of Core Team's house! She had her place all decked out with the holiday spirit, and it really put me in the mood for Christmas. I had soooo much food, I was stuffed. After eating, we opened our secret santa gifts. Mine was a penguin photo frame, a Happy Feet puzzle, and a penguin card, all in a penguin bag. I'm glad everyone knows how much I love penguins! I think everyone had a good time, and it kind of brought us all together like a family again.
Ok, so that's the end for now. I'm going to have two final blog posts after this so I can finish up my stories about Disney! Even though I've been home for over a month now, I'm having fun writing these and bringing back some of the great memories from my internship! I hope y'all enjoy them, too. I'm gonna finish off with a quote I thought was appropriate because I'm basically living in my own fantasy world right now.
"I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living. It's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope, which is what I do. And that enables you to laugh at life's realities."--Dr. Seuss
